Some with ADHD, and many without ADHD, need art; it calms down the eye-brain connection. The main part of the brain that deals with vision is the occipital cortex. It is located in the back of the brain, so it functions almost like a movie screen and projector, receiving its messages through the thalamus.

The visual brain includes the visual cortex, the main area where visual information is interpreted.

Many children who are diagnosed with ADHD are highly visual. While most children might be able to process and decode such images as cartoons and other fast-paced television, for children who are genetically wired to be visual, it can be mentally overwhelming. This can be true of many adults as well.

Creating artwork helps children, teens and adults with ADHD symptoms to focus. While it might not be “the (total) cure” for ADHD, it can be part of working towards a natural cure for those diagnosed with ADHD who are highly visual.
